Don Williams’ songs really go beyond “country” to an almost universal song language.  I often see many students flock to a class which promises to help one get friends or lovers with their English.  They should really consider using American songs for their source material and particularly writers like Don.

This song is written  for friends and about the bonds of good friends.  It is a manly song about relationships that are based on mutual respect and connections.  It is especially touching for me.  In the 1980′s I worked away from home.  This song was the “theme song” for my wife and me for many a joyful reunion.  We had lost this song for many years.  She will be so blessed when she reads this post and we meet again.  We shall once again reconnect by dancing to this great “friendship” song.
