“Michael Row the Boat Ashore” is a very old African-American spiritual song. It is kind of “Bluesy” but is the kind of music that has “Soul”. It certainly has a Christian context but is not known as such. It is considered a Folk song and is required singing for any serious camper for a great mood song around campfires.
Anyone can benefit from this song for their English. It will prove best for the beginner. It uses a lot of repetition and maintains a very strong, but slow rhythm to encourage the singer to adopt a natural rhythm or flow in their spoken English practice.
Note that there are many versions of this song. The free MP3 (below) will have the same version as the worksheet.
Free MP3 link (click here) coming soon, Katie is making it for us.

I am looking for worksheets for my students who would like to join your class on Sunday.
Should they email you?
Greetings,
Halina
I think that it is a great international song. We used to sing it when I was a little girl. The whole family gathered by the piano, I was playing and we all were performing. Those were the best days of my life.
